Prayerlessness is Our Declaration of Independence from God

(2 prayer gatherings this month: Monday, September 14th, 8-10pm & Saturday September 26th, 7-9pm)

"Prayerlessness is our declaration of independence from God." - Daniel Henderson

If you've been around me for very long, you've probably heard me quote this. It's usually followed by the statement, "we never have to tell God we don't need Him anymore. Just stop praying regularly and He gets the message." Sometimes we go through prayer-less periods; seasons of life when prayer seems ineffective or boring or a chore. Whether you are in that season or not, prayer is always necessary!!! Consider these verses:

  • “And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.” Luke 18:1
  • “…pray without ceasing,” 1 Thessalonians 5:17
  • “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” Romans 12:12
  • “But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:36
  • “…praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” Ephesians 6:18
  • “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 4:2
Knowing that you should pray doesn't always lead us to a prayerful life, however. Sometimes we need a catalyst! Personal trials, increased temptation, conviction of sin, tasks, stress, and seeing others go through pain or trial are all examples of catalysts that God often uses to increase and grow your prayer life. Praying with others also boosts your prayer life. Finding a prayer partner, someone you can trust, is a proven tool to help you in your prayer life as well. Meaningful talks with God (prayer) is too important to your spiritual life to neglect. If you find yourself struggling, try memorizing one of the passages above or setting a daily reminder or finding a prayer partner to jumpstart your prayer life. Don't wait for God to provide a catalyst! Start living a prayerful life today. Like a muscle, the more you exercise prayerfulness, the more it grows.

Here are two great opportunities to boost your prayer life:

  1. IF:Gathering for Women, Monday, September 14th, 8-10pm &
  2. Prayer vigil for Pastor Saeed and the worldwide persecuted church, Saturday September 26th, 7-9pm
